The Tide

“It’s getting late for me, but it’s too early for you” was the truest thing I’d ever heard. As I rushed out of the crowded bar and into the street, heaving and sighing wondering where things had gone so wrong, I finally saw the time. 5am. How were there still so many people? That we had become a sort of collective, almost a family overnight- as though I knew everyone in a building built for no more than twenty and each of them knew me. So how did it end up like this? Me, running down a darkened street, the deep green blending into light blue of the horizon threatening to illuminate everything I’ve ever wanted to hide. How did I get here?
